How does Listdump work?

Listdump is a community list generator based on the simple fact that everybody loves a good list. Create a list of the best how-to sites, or download sites ... Hey, you can even create a list of your personal life goals and let others help you prioritize them by voting.

Anyone who's a registered member can contribute to a list, tag, comment or vote on a list. The top rated lists show up on the front page. There is also a page for new lists.

Can I create my own lists?

There are lots of lists that might not exist yet on Listdump, so it is up to you to create them! Simply enter the list you are looking for in the search box on the homepage. If you can't find the list you are looking for, simply click the orange button on the page and follow the instructions to log in and create your list.

What is an item?

Items are the individual entries that make up a list. For example, Mozart is an item on the list of Top Classical Music Composers.

What types of lists can I create?

Anything you can think of. How To's, Tutorials, Resources, Top Lists

What are "Advanced Settings"

Let other members add to this list?
We suggest you set this to "yes". The settings shown below this one only apply when other members can contribute to a list.

Auto-approve new items added to this list?
Again, we suggest you set this to "yes". If you set this to "no", a "pending" link will appear on the list details page where you can review and approve new submissions.

Maximum number of items in list:
Let's say for a second that you're a total control freak, and your list is called "Top 10 Greatest Movies Period", then you can use this option to limit the size of your list to 10 thereby matching the list headline... "Top 10"

Maximum submissions per member:
We recommend "unlimited" for this one... But we also figured that you wouldn't want your swanky "Top 10 Greatest Movies Period" list filling up by 1 person (other than yourself).

Creating a list: List Details

List Headline:

Top 10 lists are popular because they're easy to skim, can be consumed in a short few minutes, and can demonstrate an opinion by listing things in an itemized order. For example, 'The Top Films of 2006', or 'The Best Download Dites'.

Listing specifics, as with the year '2006' in the example headline above, adds further to a lists exposure by giving it a sense of formality.

Many different techniques can be used to better align a list to gain more attention. Punching up your headline can help in a number of ways and popularity can be attained far easier with the right one.

List Description:
Describe what the list is about. 255 characters or less.

List Tags:
Tags are keywords that describe the list. Use spaces to separate, i.e.: movies videos funny clips films

Why do I get an "Invalid ICC Profile Data" when uploading an image?

If you are getting an "Invalid ICC Profile Data" error when attempting to upload, then most likely you are inadvertently embedding a color profile with your own software that is incompatible with Listdump's uploading software. When you save your picture, make sure that you do not embed an ICC profile. Try using the "save for web" function". Photos should be RGB JPG.
